Abstract

Physical education and sports are two concepts that are often considered the same in practice and public understanding, even though they have fundamental differences in goals, approaches, and implementation. Physical education is an integral part of the educational curriculum that focuses on developing the physical, mental, social, and emotional aspects of students through movement activities. Its goal is not only to improve physical fitness but also to build character, cooperation, and life skills. On the other hand, sports lean more towards competitive and achievement-oriented physical activities, carried out in an organized manner with certain rules and usually involving intensive training. This study aims to outline the fundamental differences between physical education and sports through a literature review and a qualitative descriptive approach. The study shows that physical education focuses on pedagogical and inclusive aspects, which adapt to the needs of students in the school environment. Meanwhile, sports are selective and competitive, usually participated in by individuals with certain physical potential to achieve maximum performance. Therefore, collaboration between physical education teachers and sports coaches should be emphasized so that both concepts can complement each other in shaping healthy and well-charactered individuals.
